The 1kg Labkem silica gel for desiccators is an orange indicating silica gel with a 2–4mm particle size, designed to maintain low humidity inside laboratory desiccators and sealed containers. This silica gel for desiccators changes colour from orange to green as it absorbs moisture, giving you a simple visual check on desiccant status.
The orange indicator system is classified as non-toxic, providing an alternative to traditional blue silica gels that use cobalt chloride, which is classified as toxic. Granules in the 2–4mm range flow easily into plates and trays whilst offering ample surface area for water uptake. Moisture absorption is high across a wide humidity range, with typical capacities of ≥ 9.0 % at 20 % RH, ≥ 22 % at 50 % RH and ≥ 38.0 % at 80 % RH, helping you keep glass and plastic desiccators dry. Regeneration is carried out at 100–120 °C for about one hour per kilogram, or until the gel returns to its original orange colour; overheating beyond this point may damage the indicator.
